ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

BACK GROUND
PZ Cussons established a Foundation named PZ Cussons Foundation with an initial take-off grant of N60 million in November, 2007 to implement its corporate social investment strategy in Nigeria. The mission of the Foundation is to improve the welfare of Nigerians by working in partnership with local communities. The objectives of the Foundation are to: discharge the parent company’s corporate social responsibility; foster good relationships with its host communities; promote the image of the company in the eyes of its stakeholders; and increase its customers’ goodwill and loyalty. The principles guiding the company’s corporate social investment include: maximal community involvement; sustainability of supported interventions; wide geographical spread in its interventions, and additionality rather than replacement of community and governments’ efforts. The priority areas of intervention are health, education, physical infrastructures including roads and water supplies, and empowerment. The major criteria for evaluating and selecting project/program proposals for support include: its fit into the Foundation’s mission and objectives; its relevance to the felt needs of the people; extent of possible community involvement in its implementation; local value addition; and resource requirements vis-a viz total resources available. The process of project/program development, selection and implementation involves : development of project/program proposal, evaluation of proposal and report writing, recommendation to the Board of Trustees( BOT) for decision, development of implementation plan, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. The sources of funding the selected projects/programs include, but not limited to, budgetary allocation from the parent company, proceeds from programmed investment, and donation from the public. The Foundation’s governance structure is two -tiered: an Administrative Board responsible for the day-to-day management of the Foundation’s Secretariat and the Board of Trustees largely responsible for providing policy and strategy direction, approval of proposals, approval of budget and its allocation to selected proposals. A strong communication plan aimed at both external and internal stakeholders is in place to ensure that all stakeholders are kept fully involved in and informed of what is going on. In addition, an effective evaluation and impact analysis process has been developed to be able to determine the value added by the company’s corporate social investment.
