Sustainable Water Sanitation & Hygiene (SWASH) – Partnership with Concern Universal

• This project aims to empower communities and enable them take responsibility for their own water supply and sanitation facilities and hygiene practices through the medium of community-based Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Committees (WASHCOMs) as well as working closely with the local government water and sanitation departments, strengthen their capacity, to play their required role in Nigeria’s decentralised water resources management structure.
• The 5 beneficiary communities under the PZ Cussons Foundation are: Obegu Ogbeji, Ndiofutu Oferekpe & Ndubaya Oswanka communities (Izzi LGA of Ebonyi State) and Ngulya & Kesube communities (Ogoja LGA of Cross River State).
• PZCF joint partnership for N4.37 Million

The upcoming actions:
* Construction of 5 hand pump boreholes; one in each of the benefiting communities, as well as the repair of one broken down borehole found in Ndubaya community.
* Construction of individual household latrine: The project team and WASHCOM will closely monitor the construction of household latrines and the environmental sanitation as planned by the communities
Community Action Plan (CAP)
1) Stop open defecation through the construction latrines by end November. Target is 108 latrines.
2) Improve environmental sanitation by conducting a village wide cleanup exercise every last Saturday of the month
