After several months of discussions and deliberations, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a capacity building project between PZ Cussons Foundation, Voluntary Services Organization (VSO) and the Jigawa State Government was formalized on the 16th of February, 2011.
The project focuses on the employment of expatriate teachers to teach English, Mathematics and Education through a Train-the Trainer scheme at the Gumel College of Education in Jigawa. The Chairman of PZ Cussons, Professor Emmanuel C. Edozien, OFR, who was represented by Alhaji Mohammed Bala Shagari, Sakin Mafaran Shagari at the MoU signing held at the State House, said PZ Cussons Foundation formed a partnership with the Volunteer Service Overseas, VSO, to ensure the sustainability of the project especially on recruiting the right professionals for the job.
He also stressed the Foundation’s belief in the need for quality education and an effective collaboration between public and private sectors to harness synergies. The project is unique – it is the first intangible project, it is sited outside our depot focus area and it is the first with a third party (VSO) partnership.
